Maxwell Marshall "MAX"
8/2009 Max has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.......... Max suffered a stroke on or near July 10th. After a week of slowly getting worse the decision was made to put him down. Watching such a manly man of a horse struggle to stay on his feet was just to much to bear. I have had a great year since I brought him home and miss his big amber eyes when I go to the barn.  "Max, you have touched so many peoples lives during your journey from your foaling place in Florida at the Char-o-lot Ranch with Sue Shembri to your in between stops in several states before you finally landed with me. I always made a point to let you know how much I aprreciated your gentleness with me. You made me look good. I miss you"  Thank you to all who have sent emails of simpathy and condolences. You can read below our adventures for 2009.

2008 Adventures with Max
Trail ride at Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce, CA

And learning to read cattle at the Jim Williford Memorial Arena in Rosamond, CA

Well OK to be honest, Max and I took most of 2008 off to take time pushing cattle and doing some other things besides just showing.

Max has been a finished Pleasure/English horse all his life with some trail time in between a very good show career. Max has over 735 Appaloosa points in lots of different classes from Pleasure to Trail to Native Costume.

I am honored to be the current and last owner of this amazing gelding. Not only is Max very well trained and talented he knows how to take care of me and that my friends will win my heart faster than any blue ribbons.

So as I was saying, 2008 found us participating in only one show in April at the Arabians of the Desert open show hosted by the Cresent Moon Ranch in Rosamond (hey it was 10 minutes from home, how could I not go?) In five classes we brought home 5 blue ribbons!!! Yeah Max!!

The rest of the summer we stayed close to home while fuel priced were well over $5.00 a gallon and put Max to cattle at our local Roping & Riding Club. Didn't take long for the Pleasure horse to get the hang of working the cattle. While we get teased for doing our Pleasure Horse lope down the arena, It was fun and I think Max figured out he could go a little faster and not get in trouble for it. One night he threw in a big unexpected  buck and sent me over the saddle horn on to his neck!!! What a naughty boy he was that night!!

So this month (March 2009) found us signing up for the High Point at our local show venue. Our classes are:

  • Showmanship Novice
  • Western Equitation Novice
  • Western Horsemanship Novice (pattern class)
  • Western Pleasure Novice

I'm glad to say that the judges are not looking at my Buckaroo Gear vs. all the shiny blingy show saddles out there. Max is being judged on his abilities and not all the glamor!!! I'm so glad to see it!! Thank You to the judges that are doing a great job!!!
